About the Author  

Patty Kimbrell is a trainer and presenter on physical activity for young children. She is the consultant and director for the new family physical activity video/DVD entitled, "Have Fun and Be Active," in cooperation with and funded by, WIC, Head Start and First 5. 

Patty is the author of a comprehensive Early Childhood Physical Activity Program for age 3-5 known as SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids). This program, including Patty's contribution, has received national recognition and corporate sponsorship since its inception in 2001. Click here for more details on Patty's contribution.

Patty is a trainer for the National Head Start Bureau's "I am Moving. I am Learning" (IMIL) active children campaign, which is designed to prevent childhood obesity by improving the quality and quantity of exercise in the classroom and encouraging daily wise nutrition choices. IMIL was created in response to regional and national trends toward childhood obesity. The project was designed to fit within the Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework through enhancements, chosen by the individual Head Start program, to current teaching practices by providing more focused guidance on quality movement, gross and fine motor development, and child nutrition.

Additionally, IMIL goes beyond the classroom teaching practices to enhance the approach family service workers take with Head Start families in the area of movement and nutrition, as well as, in the approach Head Start health staff takes in working with children and their families. IMIL uses a train-the-trainer model with directors and their management teams attending all day training events.

Patty keynotes and trains for organizations such as National and State Head Start Organizations, California Kindergarten Association, National and State Women, Infant, and Children (WIC), California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC), State Health Departments, and many others.

She is available to present her workshops for organizations at conferences nationwide. Her workshops are dynamic, interactive, and hands-on!
